Before the footage is overwritten
Retention can differ by operator, purpose and applicable rules. Check whether the footage still exists and when deletion is expected rather than assuming it is already gone.
Confirm the current status
Check the operator's policy, notices and response. Record the retention period and expected deletion date; one fixed period does not apply to every CCTV system.
Distinguish a preservation request from court proceedings
A request sent to an operator differs from a court evidence-preservation procedure. If evidence may become difficult to examine later, the need and requirements for a court application should be assessed separately.
Set the next action and timing
We identify the footage, relevant section and supporting material, then explain whether a written request or an additional procedure is appropriate. Call us if a deadline is approaching.
